[Seattle-SAGE] help with second scsi adapter on FC3

A server has precociously started hosting production
data, without a backup. I installed an Adaptec 29160
card to attach an external drive. I've seen at least
one post that says an identical setup works with
Bacula, but I'd like to test with mt|mtx|tar before
going to anything more involved.

Server is a dell PE 2980, onboard LSI-megaraid.
Adaptec BIOS seems to function normally, detecting
itself (surely a moral victory, that), the tape
loader, and the tape drive.

When I installed the adaptec card, kudzu didn't detect
it. I edited /etc/modprobe.conf, adding 'alias
scsi_hostadapter1 aic79xx' and changing the megaraid
alias to scsi_hostadapter0.

I then created a new ramdisk via:

/sbin/mkinitrd -v -f /boot/initrd-$(uname -r).img
$(uname -r)

/sbin/lsmod shows aic79xx, but dmesg shows nothing for
aic79xx, or scsi[1]. scsi[0] is the LSI controller.
It gets assigned sg0 and sg1.

I don't see anything in /dev/ that looks like a tape
drive.

Here's the lsmod output:

Is there a way to see if the adaptec card is actually
working? It looks like I could load all kinds of
modules for devices that aren't actually installed -
or is it smarter than that? Is there a way to manually
invoke kudzu?

Much gratitude for any clues.
