ANNOUNCING:
The second meeting of Seattle Snort Users Group
(SeaSnUG)
Second meeting: January 17, 2005 at 7:00 PM
Location: South Seattle Community College
TEC Building Room #129 (GeekHaus)
Come learn about Snort, the premier Network Intrusion
Detection System, bar none. It also happens to be
available FREE. Free to use, free to modify and adapt
to your needs. Snort has a successful company
(Sourcefire) backing it, and an army of community
developers providing their own enhancements. Snort is
the Red Pill that will allow you to see what is
happening on the wire - good and bad.
Attractions:
Presentation on Snort and NSM console Sguil, now in
version 0.6.0p1. From the sguil webpage: " Sguil
(pronounced sgweel) is built by network security
analysts for network security analysts. Sguil's main
component is an intuitive GUI that provides realtime
events from snort/barnyard. It also includes other
components which facilitate the practice of Network
Security Monitoring and event driven analysis of IDS
alerts." Sguil seems to scale better than ACID/BASE,
and
puts more tools on a single screen.
Fix My Problem: Bring your troubles to the group.
What is said in meeting, stays in meeting. ;)
Door prizes from Sourcefire, Addison
Wesley, and OReilly.
All attendees receive a 20% discount off any
Sourcefire course.
Group members are also eligible for a 40% discount
from Addison Wesley/Prentice Hall or IBM Press book.
Contact me for details.
We also have a lending library of top security related
texts from the stock of future door prizes
