This job contributes to Starbucks success by providing advanced third-level
technical and operational support for computer network servers, data
storage, and other information technology system infrastructure. Works in an
operating environment which includes HP UX and Sun Solaris servers and
peripherals, IBM AS/400 server and peripherals, EMC disk and associated
storage area network (SAN) technology, and a variety of performance and
system management tools and products. Models and acts in accordance with
Starbucks guiding principles.


Summary of Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to
the following:

   - Analyzes system errors and problem documentation and recommends
   solutions to improve the operating environment. Analyzes performance data to
   provide capacity planning and resource utilization information in support of
   operational and budget planning processes.
   - Analyzes, plans, tests, documents and implements regular, advanced
   or special maintenance activities of system hardware and software to meet
   service level agreements with user groups.
   - Identifies the need to implement new or update existing servers,
   peripherals, and system management tools and products, following
   architectural guidelines and standards. Defines requirements, evaluates
   available products, and plans and tests prior to implementation. Develops
   standards, guidelines, processes and procedures, standard configurations,
   and installation and support guidelines.
   - Mentors other team members on technical matters.
   - Participates on cross-functional project teams, providing subject
   matter expertise and ensuring that new system objects are supported by
   developing administrative procedures.
   - Provides third-level production support for servers, data storage,
   and other systems, including after-hours on-call support.


 Qualifications Summary of Experience


   - Diagnosing and troubleshooting system problems in a complex,
   heterogeneous systems environment (5 years)
   - Participating in product evaluations, planning, gathering
   requirements, testing, and recommending and implementing solutions (3 years)

   - Participating in projects as a subject matter expert (3 years)
   - Using diagnostic, monitoring, problem and change management tools,
   such as Remedy, HPOpenView, ITO, Patrol, and HP/Sun (3 years)
   - Analyzing performance and problem data, recommending and
   implementing solutions, procedures and standards in a team environment


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

   - Ability to design, plan, install and maintain server infrastructure
   - Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and software problems
   - Detailed knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP and SNA
   - Detailed knowledge of server operating systems, specifically HPUX,
   Sun Solaris, and server performance and management tools
   - Detailed knowledge of UNIX server systems, specifically HP, Sun
   - Knowledge of EMC systems and storage area networks (SAN)
   - Knowledge of system management tools such as HP OpenView, Patrol and
   Veritas, and layered software products such as Remedy and Microsoft Office
   Suite
