[SASAG] Free AV & Firewall

You can get rid of the AVG toolbar by reinstalling AVG, and UN-checking the
"Yes, I would like to install the AVG Security toolbar" option. If you are
installing AVG for the first time, this box is CHECKED by default.
Unchecking the box will avoid installing this "feature".

I have been using AVG Free for at least 7 years , and swear by it. It
actually catches stuff that gets by our McAfee Enterprise version at work.

Is there an easy way to make AVG not take over your system? It integrates
with the browser, forces the yahoo toolbar. (If you hide it, it prompts you
with a "helpful" message along the lines of "Oh. It looks like you
accidently hid the AVG toolbar. We put it back for you."

I've heard good things about Avast, but I haven't tried it myself. Has
anyone else here tried it?
