We just posted a job opening for a *Unix Systems Administrator* here at
Pacific Lutheran University.

A few basics about the *Unix SysAdmin* position:

*General Description*
Responsible for development installation, configuration and maintenance of a
variety of PLU's central computer and software systems as a member of PLU's
Information & Technology Services, Systems & Communications. Reports to the
Senior Systems Administrator.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
*-Monitor, administer, troubleshoot and maintain Unix and Linux servers,
including hardware, software and backups.
-Design, implement, and maintain scripts and programs for automating complex
tasks and supporting web-based online services.
-Administer user accounts and an emerging Identity Management infrastructure
across LDAP, Unix, Windows, Single Sign-on, and Email systems.
-Maintain and/or troubleshoot Unix/Linux based applications (e.g. Apache,
Tomcat, BIND, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Fedora Directory Server, DHCPd, RADIUS,
etc.).
-Jointly manage and maintain a heavily virtualized and expanding environment
including VMWare ESX/vSphere hosting Linux and Windows guests.
-Develop and maintain complete documentation on systems, procedures, and
source code.
