Hi folks,

Thank you for helping us find excellent candidates for the Server
Operations Supervisor position
-- the hiring manager will be start scheduling interviews this week with
some of the people you referred to us.
[If you think of more candidates, plse send them our way.]

Would you help me find candidates for this 'IT Security Manager'
position? We posted this job last summer and have had trouble finding
someone suitable. Please forward this message as widely as you see fit.

Job ID 23147
Title: Manager, Information Security
Search http://www.fhcrc.org/about/jobs/index.html

Or read the description at:
for how this position fits into our org chart. The IT Security
department currently consists of three staff plus the manager; this
manager reports to the CIO.

Paraphrasing a hallway conversation I had yesterday with our CIO:

"I'm looking for someone with skills -- certification isn't a
requirement but is a strong plus. Leadership, both internally and
Center-wide. I need someone who can present at the Board level, if
needed. And of course 'fit': I don't want a cop. We are a research
organization; we do not have patients; we are not HIPAA-covered -- we
have strong business needs for uncovering, sharing, and disseminating
our discoveries amongst a world-wide research community. That being
said, we need to protect the institution as a whole, protect staff
identities, and maintain exemplary ethical standards. I need someone
who can work with the scientists, understand their needs, and craft
solutions which meet those needs while keeping in mind the larger
institutional interests. It is a balancing act."

Interested candidates can apply directly via
http://www.fhcrc.org/about/jobs/index.htm). If you would like to talk
*informally* about the position, about IT at the Hutch, or about the
Center as a whole, I would be willing to do that -- via e-mail, phone,
or in person -- I would enjoy spending an hour or two with interested
candidates, answering questions. I want to emphasize that I have no
influence over the hiring process -- I am a third tier tech, with
several layers of management between me and the CIO. However, I have
worked at the Center since 1993, have a broad view of IT, and have
played a variety of roles, including reporting to the interim Security
