What hosting platform, and how is it configured?
What networking infrastructure do you have, and how it it configured?

I'm only familiar with ESX, so a few questions from that perspective:

o- Do you have a vswitch on each host configured that can actually
"see" the network, and is each VM plugged into its respective vswitch?
That is, is the vswitch on each Host configured with one or more
physical NICs that are actually connected to the network?

o- Are the Hosts' IP addresses on the same subnet (or even the same
vswitch) as the VMs for their resident machines, and can they ping
each other?

o- Can the VMs and their hosts ping their respective DGs?

o- Assuming that the Hosts and VMs are on separate subnets, can the
DGs of each subnet ping each other?
